My Favorite Way to Buy Affordable Sports & Concert Tickets

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for more information.

If you blog for any length of time, your inbox starts to be flooded with sponsored post requests. It generally involves a short generic message with poor grammar and the request to write a sponsored post for some sketchy company in exchange for a much too small fee.

My blog’s mission has always been about helping other improve their financial situation, and these type of requests don’t align with that mission. This is one way that bloggers can make money, but so far I’ve been disregarding all of these requests. There may be a time and a place where a sponsored post gets published on Spills Spot, but only if it will truly provide value to all of you.

All that being said, today’s post is NOT a sponsored post, but it centers on a tool that I personally use and love. SeatGeek has become my go-to app for all purchases of sports tickets and concert tickets. Today I want to share details of why they’re my favorite ticketing app and how easy it is to use.

Spills Spot readers can use promo code SGSPILLS for $20 off your first SeatGeek purchase! (I’ll also receive a $10 referral bonus)

Why SeatGeek is My Ticketing App of Choice

1. No Hidden Fees

I’m a huge baseball fan, which means I go to around 5-7 MLB games per year, plus a couple concerts as well. I used to use StubHub to purchase tickets for these events, until they made a change in how they display their fees. Now on Stubhub, the fees won’t show up until you get to the checkout screen. This is a poor user experience, because you think you’ll be paying one price and then all of a sudden the price jumps right before you pay. The higher price the tickets are, the higher this price jump will be.

For example, in practice, I found 2 baseball tickets for $26 each. You would think you’d get to the checkout screen and pay $52, maybe slightly more for a small convenience fee. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Upon reaching the checkout screen, the price jumped to $68.50. As a customer, I didn’t like these hidden fees and started to explore other options for purchasing tickets. That’s when I found SeatGeek.

SeatGeek gives you the option to view ticket prices with the fees already included. This means the price you see is the price you pay, no surprises at checkout. 2 baseball tickets for $26 each would actually end up being $52 like you expected.

2. Ease of Search

Searching for tickets is easy. You can browse popular events near your location (which I use to locate nearby concerts I’m interested in) or type in the event you want to find tickets for (image #1). In this example, I typed in San Francisco Giants and it listed all the upcoming home games. When selecting a game you can choose to sort by Lowest Price, or by Deal Score (image #2).

Deal Score is a score that SeatGeek assigns to each ticket to determine the “bang for your buck” that you’re getting. Better seats and better prices help increase a ticket’s Deal Score.

3. Interactive Seat Mapping

With SeatGeek, you can use the interactive seat map to view how your seats look at the venue. You just select the event you want to go to, choose a section (image #1), select the tickets you want in a particular row (image #2), and then click the icon in the bottom right corner to make the view expand larger (image #3). I love being able to see a picture of what the view will look like from the seats I’m looking at purchasing.
